India is renowned for its magnificent tradition of education. In many a sense, it has laid the foundation for the way, the teaching and education sector has shaped up today. Today, it has 20 central universities, 215 state universities, 100 deemed universities and 13 institutes of national importance. The governing body at the higher level is the University Grants Commission (UGC) which works in coordination with the government.

In India, the UGC has established 12 autonomous institutions which oversee the accreditation for higher learning. The alumni of these institutions have contributed tremendously to the growth of both public and private sectors in India.

These two universities, along with Jawaharlal Nehru University have also found a place of honor in the ‘Times Higher Education’ list of the world’s top 200 universities. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences has been acknowledged as a global pioneer in medical research and treatment.

The government is also doing its best in creating awareness and promoting the importance of higher education in the society. For the same reason of development and progress, Universities of India lay so much stress on quality education imparted through classroom lessons as well as hands-on practical training. This helps in giving the students an idea about how things work in actuality. Practical training has been a major part of the curriculum of Indian Universities.
